When you are young and it’s your birthday, you really believe that dreams, wishes and the extraordinary can come true – and this is exactly what happened for little Ryan Allen recently.

To mark his fifth birthday, the Yorkshire boy decided to write a special note, attach it to his Spiderman birthday balloon and send it off on an adventure. In the note, he asked whoever found it to let him know where it ended up.

While parents Paul and Steph expected the balloon to just drift out to sea, they were amazed when they received a Facebook message about the balloon six weeks later! The balloon had travelled an astonishing 186 miles to Gloucestershire, where it was found by a man out walking in a field.

While Mum and Dad were taken aback by the message, you can imagine just how excited little Ryan was to find out about the epic adventure his balloon had been on!

Speaking to local media, mum Steph said: “Ryan was just really excited…He just said, ‘That’s my balloon!’ He loved it. We have asked the people who found it to send it up so he can have a photo with it before and after.”

And since going public with their story, the Allens have received an overwhelming response from the public.

“We didn’t expect this many people to be interested in it – and it’s all from one balloon. It’s nice to see something positive online at the moment which is why we wanted to share it on Facebook in the first place,” Steph added.

What a lovely story. We’re feeling rather uplifted (ahem!) after that!
