The investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance will continue into 2018 after police invest £154,000 in the case.

Police have been given more funds to support their search for the little girl who has been missing for eleven years now.

The funding from The Home Office will see the investigation go on until March 2018.

It is understood that the team is currently following promising leads that may help uncover more information about Madeleine’s disappearance.

In 2007, Scotland Yard requested additional funds for their investigation. They have just received the funding due to the Home Office’s rigorous protocol, “As with all applications, the resources required are reviewed regularly and careful consideration is given before any funding is allocated.”

Before now the investigation team only had enough financial support to carry the investigation through until this September.

A spokesperson for the Home Office explained how they decide on how much money an investigation will receive, “The level of funding provided is a reflection of the wide-ranging and complex nature of the investigation.”

The investigation, which is formerly known as Operation Grange, is one of the most expensive investigations the Metropolitan Police have ever carried out.

The Madeleine McCann case has received huge publicity and is one of the most talked about cases of the past few years.

It is understood that the government has already invested £11 million in this one case.

Madeline has been missing since 2007. May 2017 marked ten years since the young girl vanished from her holiday home in Praia Luz in Portugal.

Her parents Kate and Gerry say they will never give up hope and believe remaining determined is key.

They wrote about the ten-year anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance on their website called FindMadeleine:

Ten years- there's no easy way to say it, describe it, accept it. I remember when Madeleine first disappeared I couldn’t even begin to consider anything in terms of years. Shawn Hornbeck abducted and kept hidden for over four years, Natascha Kampusch for over eight years. I couldn't go there. And now here we are...Madeleine, our Madeleine- ten years.

Most days are similar to the rest - another day. May 3, 2017 - another day. But ten years - a horrible marker of time, stolen time.

Her parents have expressed their deep gratitude for the police and the team who have been working tirelessly to find their daughter since she went missing in 2007.
