Every mum’s worst nightmare is for their child to become ill – especially if that illness prevents them from living a normal life like other children.

That’s why MummyPages has launched the #SantaSelfie campaign to raise money for the amazing BUMBLEance service, bringing a little sunshine into the lives of sick children.

Christmas is the perfect time to help those who are struggling and this is something that Pride of Ireland winner Tony Heffernan and his wife Mary, do all year round.

Tony, who tragically lost two children to illness, explains: “At BUMBLEance our aim is to make every trip a positive experience.

“It is the world’s first interactive ambulance designed for children but it is also a paediatric intensive care transport unit designed to the highest medical specifications.

“On board we have Playstations, DVDs, iPads, wifi and traditional games to keep small people amused but we also have two fully trained paediatric paramedics on board.”

The service began in September 2013 an since then, they have transported 320 children from 32 counties, some of whom use the service regularly.

“We also do angel trips and the BUMBLEance has brought 30 children on their final journey home to die,” added Tony.

The BUMBLEance service needs to raise €30,000 by the end of 2014 to add a second ambulance to its service. It currently costs €200,000 a year to keep the BUMBLEance on the road so the funds are desperately needed.
