It’s always a tad embarrassing when a parent tries to set their child up on a date (think Bridget Jones’ Diary), so spare a thought for Baron Brooks this week.

Poor old Baron, 48, has been left ‘shocked’ and ‘infuriated’ after finding out that his 78-year-old father, Arthur, took out a newspaper advert seeking a wife on his behalf!

The $900 ad, which appeared in Idaho newspaper Coeur d’Alene Press, read: “LOOKING FOR A WIFE: My name is Baron Brooks. I am 48 years old, never been married and live in Salt Lake City. I am looking for a wife who is ready, willing and able to have children as soon as possible. I look just like my picture, except I now have grey hair.”

Baron had no idea whatsoever that his father had put the ad out, and was left understandably mortified by the move.

He told a local newspaper: "My father did this without my consent. I can’t even describe to you how embarrassing and ridiculous this is. He just does this crap… If I shared some of the stories, you wouldn’t believe it. He just does weird stuff, and nobody knows why."

It does seem like Arthur’s move came from an emotional place, however; Baron revealed that his father recently fell ill and is keen to have a grandson, to continue on the family name.

It hasn’t worked out all that bad for Baron, either; he confirmed that he – somewhat reluctantly – has given Arthur the green light to interview suitable candidates for him!

"What am I supposed to do? He already did it. No sense in defusing a bomb once it’s already gone off. It’s worth a shot. Can't hurt,” he added.

Can you imagine if Arthur actually found ‘the one’ for Baron? He could yet be eating his words!
