The Dublin District Court today heard the frightening details of how a man allegedly took a six-year-old boy with Down syndrome away in his buggy on a busy street in Dublin.

The child, who is unable to communicate by speech, is said to have been separated from his parents in the middle of a busy Liffey Street in Dublin City, when the incident occurred this week.

Among the hordes of people walking down the street, 27-year-old David Ryan allegedly pushed the child’s buggy across the road, proceeding to take the food that the little one was eating. Ryan is then said to have left the buggy at the side of the street, with the child still inside.

According to reports, a security guard came across the child and took him into his care.

Ryan – himself, a father-of-two – was later charged with falsely imprisoning the child. In today’s court hearing, Ryan was refused bail and remanded in custody.

The case will now be sent for trial by judge and jury to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Ryan has not yet indicated whether or not he intends to plead guilty to the charge.
