A man, who admits to being in a tumultuous relationship, recently took to Reddit to ask for advice on how he should tell his pregnant wife that he wants a divorce.

The 28-year-old, who remains anonymous, shared a long post on the popular site describing how he suffers “severe physical, emotional and mental abuse”, and admitted that getting married two years ago was a mistake.

Explaining that his wife is between six and seven months pregnant, he described how her character had shifted dramatically since she conceived, going on to say that “she has made [his] life miserable in unimaginable ways.”

Revealing that she “throws a fit” if he doesn’t wash the dishes properly, he also recalled a time when she threw a fork at him, narrowly missing his eye.

“I feel no love towards her, only fear, and I know at this point my only option is a divorce. However I am too scared to even broach the topic of divorce with her because I have no idea how she will react, whether she might try to hurt me, herself, or the baby,” he wrote at the time.

While users were quick to offer the man advice, informing him that he is in an abusive relationship, one told him to take his wife to see a doctor, explaining: “Pregnancy hormones are definitely a thing, getting weepy is normal. Becoming a completely different, violent person is not.”

Another warned him to protect himself, saying: “Please continue to protect yourself, document everything, and if she has never been like this before then please wait until she has the baby to see what happens to her mental state.”

The man has now taken to Reddit to update and thank those who offered him advice, revealing he has started divorce proceedings.

“I have contacted a lawyer and my wife and I are on the path to divorce. I explained to her clearly in no uncertain terms that I 100% could not continue in this marriage. It was not a pretty sight, I'll say that; her reaction was not what you'd call understanding, but eventually she accepted it."

Urging him to stay strong for the sake of the baby, one person wrote: "What a terrible mess."
