Me Time With Netflix

Netflix are asking MummyPages mums how they’ll be spending their time now that the kids are back in school.

Maybe you’ll be finishing that blog post you started writing two months ago? Or perhaps you’ll be finally making use of your neglected gym membership? How about you look after yourself for once, put your feet up, and treat yourself to a relaxing moment with cup of tea and your favourite Netflix show.

Netflix is available anywhere there’s a wifi connection, and can be watched on numerous devices, including mobiles, tablets, smart TVs and games consoles. With a massive selection of top quality films and award-winning TV shows, as well as access to Netflix’s exclusive original programmes, there’s always something new to discover.

So, how will you be using Netflix now that you have a bit more time to yourself? Do you work part-time and look forward to that hour in the afternoon when you unwind with an episode of Suits? Are you giving yourself some free time after you drop the kids at school to grab a coffee and catch up on Orange is the New Black on your iPad? Or do you wait until the kids are safely tucked up in bed to binge-watch the final season of The Killing on your smart TV with the hubby? Whatever it is, we'd love to hear about it!

Share how as a mum, you use Netflix to find some quality me time and be in with a chance to win a weekend away for you and your partner at the g Hotel & Spa in Galway.

What a great idea Sarah - we got a treadmill in our house too for the same reason. I will def have to set up a TV - I think I might actually look forward to excercising. Thank you for sharing :-)

I have recently started watching House of Cards on Netflix...and I have slowly become obsessed. I love nothing more than in the evening to curl up and catch up on House of Cards. Like some of the other mums on here, my husband and I love choosing a movie on a Saturday night - cheap date night! :-)

Great service Netflix!

I watch it on my laptop all the time when I'm cooking dinner in the kitchen as we don't have a TV in there. I have it playing on the table whilst I chop the endless vegetables required for a family of 7. It's great company and makes a long task so much more enjoyable. So kinda me time crossing over with family feeding

You know it's funny, I didn't have a clue how to watch a games console but when I saw the kids watching Netflix through it, I had to give it a go. When they head off to bed my husband and I steal some together time to watch some TV. I love it 'cos there are no ads, and only breaks of your own chosing. We are watching a few box sets at the same time though - some for me and some for him. Me Time, My Way!

My little one is still at the stage where she falls asleep when we are driving so rather than move her (which never works and she instantly wakes up and crys for the afternoon) I whip out my ipad and catch up on some TV with my earphones in. I'm nearly willing her to stay asleep - LOL. I'd say the neighbours think I'm crazy and sometimes, if they are near my car, I'll start mouthing as if I'm on a phone conversation so they stay away from my quiet time. Tongue

So often I see things pass by me on TV, shows that I've love to see and I keep meaning to sit down to watch, but never actually get around to it. Enter Netflix. I now get to see all the shows I kept missing, currently catching up on Nurse Jackie, gotta love love Edie Falco.

Two of my friends aren't converts to Netflix yet, so I've started a Netflix Club (as opposed to a Book Club) which means the girls come around - I do nibbles some vino and we watch two episodes of Damages. It's a bit like going to the movies but it costs very little. So it's not classic on your own me time, instead it's friends time. Maybe it will catch on.

I'm normally a very up and at them kinda mom, but I have to say, once the Autumn weather comes, there's nothing I love more than being at home and settling into my little snug (a corner of the room that isn't infested with kids stuff!!) once the kids go to bed. I love watchin my fave shows on the iPad with no interruptions, no questions, no conversations - just me and the iPad. Superb.

OMG I'm like that girl Louise - I use it in the gym all of the time too. And so does my trainer - she said it's a great way to keep you running.

I run with it in the gym too - I run three times a week and it's the only metime I ever get. So I always bring the ipad with me. I put it on the treadmill and run for 40 minutes no problem at all. Simples.

Funny I was just wondering how I would spend my evening when I happened on this thread, I haven't swtiched on Netflix in a while, so now, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Lots of US shows I need to catch up on. Excellent.

The other day I kind got sick of watching the boxsets (been watching them all year and just needed a break), I decided I needed a few movies to watch, so starting flicking through what was there. Well, I never knew - there's quite the selection. So far, I have watched The Proposal, Sliding Doors and Confessions of a Shopaholic ... all girly chick flicks, and I loved them. Total switch off feel good viewing - the perfect me time for a stressed out mummy.

Fortunately, for me, my little one now sleeps through the night. But I have to say, when she wasn't, we would spend mummy and me time watching Netflix. Sounds kinda silly, but it was such great company on those lonely evenings. And my little one always settled eventually ... at least I didn't have to walk to boards while the hubby snored away upstairs.
Still love Netflix of course, but nowadays get to watch it at a reasonable hour of the day.

I'm so glad to read this thread, I thought I was the only one with me-time ... great to see mummies getting the break they need. Me time in my house is shared with my husband, we always set aside Sunday nights for movies and Netflix is our go to place. There's really loads on there, and it's just so simple and 'touch of a button' which is what you need in these busy times.
I do also sneak a little bit of me time during the week, when kiddies go to bed, I grab the iPad and watch the boxsets my husband refuses to watch with me . ha ha. It's a good balance.
