When you lose a loved one, any important mementos or memories associated with them become incredibly special, which is why we really hope we can help the woman in the following story.

A grandmother from Meath has appealed for help this weekend, after losing a precious necklace containing ashes belonging to her late granddaughter.

Speaking to the Irish Independent this weekend, Elma Fay explained how she is desperately hoping that someone has found the invaluable piece of jewellery, and will come forward after her appeal.

Elma’s granddaughter, Nicole, passed away in January 2015 at the age of 16 months. She had been suffering from a genetic disease called Aicardi Syndrome, and had defied doctors’ expectations by surviving up to that point.

Recalling how the necklace came to be, Elma told the Irish Independent: “Shortly after Nicole passed away, my daughter Leona bought four cremation jewellery necklaces and placed some of Nicole's ashes inside each for me and Leona's two siblings, Niamh and Orla.”

However, it was after returning home to Meath from a shopping trip in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre last Sunday that Elma realised she had lost the precious necklace at some point that day.

Retracing her steps, Elma told the publication that she visited Boots and Power City in the shopping centre, before stopping in Dunshaughlin for petrol and heading to Kilmessan to pick up a pizza.

The necklace itself is a silver chain bearing a stainless steel canister, with three small diamanté stones down the front. If you happened to find the necklace, or you have any information that could help Elma, you can get in touch with the family by email at leonafay@gmail.com.

We really hope Elma is reunited with her precious treasure.
