If you suspect that your daughter is feeling particularly anxious about menstruation, it may help to provide her with some facts:

Firstly, explain to her that it may seem that a lot of blood is lost during your period, the average cycle only produces between 10-85 ml.

Next explain what a typical period will look like.

Day 1 of your menstrual cycle is the first day of bleeding and typically an average menstrual cycle is 28 days although this can be shorter or longer and it can take a few years before a cycle will become regular.

The average age girls will begin menstruation is between age 12 and 13 but it can also start much earlier or later than this.

While many girls will suffer from period pain not everyone does. If your period is heavier you are more likely to suffer from period pain. Hot water bottles, a warm cup of tea, painkillers, walking or a hot bath are all great ways to deal with period pain.
