Cold and flu season is in full swing by now, and blogger Sia Cooper, who runs Diary of a Fit Mommy, dispensed some unexpected health advice.

The mum-of-two deviated from her usual workout-focused posts to tell her 711K Insta followers how she helps her loves ones who have a cold.

She shared that her daughter caught a cold while teething, and the Instagram video shows the mum massaging her little girl's face.

“If you’re not a fan of medication, you can try acupressure and massage to the sinus cavities,” Sia advised in the caption.

“Simply apply direct pressure with your fingertips and gently rub to get that drainage flowing. Also helps to temporarily relieve a little pressure so your little ones can feel better! Also works [well] for adults, too,” the blogger said.

While we haven’t tried the remedy personally, the method is featured in a WikiHow article on how to relieve sinus pressure. A HuffPost article recommends using a small body massager on the cheekbones and other sinus areas in order to treat sinus issues.

Sia's Insta followers had mostly positive reactions to the advice.

One parent took the advice to heart, saying, "Awwww, hope your little one feels better soon. I will try this on my little one as well since she suffers from allergies and sinus problems."

"Ironically the day you posted this, my teething baby woke up in the night. I decided to try this, thinking there would be no way he’d let me," said another parent, "He IMMEDIATELY stopped crying and was so soothed by I️t that he didn’t want me to stop."

"I don’t like judging but at least there are mommies who will do everything to make their little ones feel better....warms my heart!" commented one person.

What do you think of the method, mums? Have you tried it before? What unusual treatments do you have for the common cold?
