From school equipment to clothing and food, the shopping list is never-ending for mums and dads everywhere, and it would appear that Ireland’s parents are particularly stressed-out by the financial demands of their role.
According to the latest statistics released by the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), a third of Irish parents are stressed due to financial concerns.
The results of their latest study show that 32% of Ireland’s parents are concerned about money, which marks a 2% rise from the figure recorded in 2013.
One area that seems to account for much of the stress and strain on parents’ bank accounts is the back-to-school shop, with the study showing that 12% of Irish parents will consider borrowing money to cover the costs.
Commenting on the findings today, IACP spokesman Shane Kelly: “It is clear that not everyone is feeling the effects of the economic recovery.”
“Stress due to financial concerns continues to be a significant problem for a large part of the population, especially parents and people in the 35-64 age groups,” Mr Kelly added.
