From being told that Christmas was cancelled to having scoldings recorded and shared online, parents’ various forms of punishing their children have caused controversy in recent times.

Now, another woman has not only come in for criticism, but has been arrested after publicly shaming her daughter by sending her to school in a ‘grade-shaming’ T-shirt.

According to reports, Melany Joyce Alexander was so angry with her daughter over her grades that she sent her to school wearing a T-shirt detailing that she was being punished over her bad results.

The front of the T-shirt read:

“My name is [removed] I currently have all F’s in all of my classes. I am not aloud [sic] to have a boyfriend no time soon. So back off before I get another good woopin’ like I got last night. Also I can no longer have ANY friends until ALL of my F’s are ALL brought up to C’s and up!!! So unless you are helping me with this goal…BACK OFF [sic]!!!”

Among the other upsetting words on the back of the T-shirt was the sentence: “Want to be my friend? Help me by not!”

The 31-year-old is also facing child abuse charges for allegedly beating the child with a belt, leaving marks on her arms, neck, chest, back and legs.

Alexander later admitted to hitting her child, and she was charged with cruelty towards a child in which the abuse causes great bodily harm or a disability. She was later released after posting $2,500 bond.
