The unidentified mum has been praised after foiling sexual predator Jonathan Ashley Butler’s plot to attack her nine-year-old daughter.
According to reports, it was this mother’s vigilance and decisive action which led police to arrest 36-year-old Butler, who is now facing into a possible 20-year prison sentence.
It all started when the mother recently found a string of inappropriate messages on her daughter’s phone, sent to her by Butler, the father of one of the child’s friends.
Deciding to catch Butler out at his own game, the mother continued on the conversation under the guise of her daughter; it wasn’t long before Butler requested sex from the nine-year-old.
The mother brought the incident to the attention of the police, who took over the conversation and arranged to meet up with Butler – again, pretending to be the little girl.
Butler drove to an arranged meeting place, where police were waiting to arrest him. An investigation is now underway, with police examining mobile phone data in a bid to identify other potential victims.
This story just goes to show that we need to be on the alert at all times where our children’s safety is concerned. Don’t be afraid to make regular checks on their phones and online activity.
