In the past year we have reported on an alarming number of stories in which families have discovered their children’s baby monitors to have been hacked, and this latest story will send chills down your spine.

A mum in Washington, in the States has spoken of her horror after discovering that her young son’s monitor had been hacked by a strange woman.

Alarmingly, the unnamed woman’s son had spent months talking about the ‘telephone’ that was going off each night in his bed.

“For months, my son was telling us that the ‘telephone’ was telling him to stay in bed,” the mum told local media.

The truth behind the mysterious ‘caller’ was discovered last weekend however, when the mother herself heard a woman’s voice broadcast over the monitor while her son was taking a nap.

As the mother was coming into the room to check on her son, she heard the female voice say: “Oh, watch this one, she’s coming in again.”

Even more terrifyingly, the mother then saw the camera move independently.

This is just the latest in a string of similar hacking stories, with a Minnesota family discovering that images of their child's crib had been taken and posted on a website, as part of a wider online hacking web.

This is deeply shocking, and it proves why we need to be so vigilant.
