A devastated mother has urged parents everywhere not to purchase supermarket fireworks, after her daughter was left ‘badly burnt’.

Stephanie Roe took to Facebook to reveal the extent of damage that a supposedly ‘harmless’ box of fireworks caused, when one struck her daughter Maisie on Sunday.

She wrote: “Sometimes, instead of going up, they shoot horizontally across a field and embed in your four-year-old’s scarf before they go ‘bang’.”

Updating concerned friends and family on the social media site, Stephanie revealed: “[Maisie] has full-thickness burns to her head and shoulder that will probably require skin grafts. The burning to her face and ear seem superficial at this time.”

Poor little Maisie has also been left with burns to her hands.

Stephanie revealed that Maisie was standing ‘a good 10 metres away’ from where the fireworks were left off. She added that the firework itself was considered Grade 2; ‘for use in a backyard with a 5-metre buffer zone’.

Linking to a petition she has set up calling for a ban on the sale of fireworks to the public, Stephanie admitted she is hoping that her message will resonate with parents.

“If this photo puts anyone off buying fireworks from a supermarket/newsagent and setting them off in their garden next year, then good…It’s NEVER worth the risk,” she urged.

We’re wishing Maisie all the best with her recovery, and we’re sure Stephanie’s words of caution will help in the prevention of other such accidents.
