Most of us have shared pictures of our children with family and friends on social media accounts, making this an important story to share.

And while most of us consider it ok if we have our accounts set to private, as one mother in the States found out, this is not the case.

Brittany Champagne was on Instagram during the week, when she stumbled across a picture of her eight-year-old daughter that she’d shared on her own Facebook account, on someone else’s site.

Talking to CNN Wire, the mum-of-two said: “I clicked on there and I found a girl claiming to be 11-years-old as my daughter, and she’s a bisexual cheerleader and her whole page is about gay pride.”

Shockingly, after a little more digging, Brittany, who also found pictures of herself and her nine-month-old son, found that the user had, according to the mum, “hash-tagged porn sites onto my kids’ photos. My kids are all over at least 11 porn sites that I’ve found today.”

After reporting it to Unified Police, she is trying to undo the damage.

“I can’t imagine how my kids would feel. I feel beyond violated, so I don’t even know what they would feel,” said Brittney.

She now rethinks what she posts, saying: “As far as looking at anybody’s photos, you’re not going to be able to see mine. I just won’t have them up. I seriously feel like the worst mom having have put these on there and seeing what happened. I didn’t feel that posting family photos could turn into something like that.”

Sadly, the police say there is nothing that can be done as says it serves as a reminder of the dangers of social media.
