A number of our readers were left scratching their heads yesterday, when we shared the story of the death of Daisy Lynn Torres; but now the 14-month-old’s mother has spoken out to share more details of the story.

As some of you may already know, little Daisy Lynn died after a dental procedure, when she stopped breathing after being administered with an anaesthetic.

A friend of the child’s mother Betty, stated on a fundraising page that the tot had gone to the dental practice for a ‘routine’ procedure, and now Betty has shed more light on what actually happened in the lead-up to this most tragic death.

Texas woman Betty told Fox4: “I had originally went over there because they said she had two cavities. I was sitting down, and he [the dentist] came in the room and he told me, ‘Well, real quick, it turns out she has six cavities,’ and she has eight teeth."

After being told that they were considering putting Daisy Lynn under anaesthesia, Betty met with the anaesthesiologist to get more information. Shortly after the procedure began, however, the concerned mother was told that something was wrong.

“It wasn’t that long until they called me back there, saying that there were complications, that she wasn’t breathing and she had gone into cardiac arrest…When EMS came, they told me to give her a kiss bye before they put her on the ambulance, but we already knew that she was gone, there,” she added, heartbreakingly.

She is now demanding answers: “I want to know why she’s not here with me.”

While an autopsy has been carried out on little Daisy Lynn’s body, the results have yet to be returned. An investigation into the dental practice, based in Austin, is also due to begin.

Our hearts go out to the family in the wake of this tragedy.
