When we’re at a vulnerable time in our lives, even the smallest act of kindness can make all of the difference – which is something that Scottish mum Mairi Holden has discovered this week.

Mairi took to Facebook yesterday to launch an appeal to find the Good Samaritan who left kind words and money on her car bonnet, after she was issued with parking fines while visiting her sick son in hospital.

In the post, which has now gone viral, Mairi explained how her son Oscar had to stay in Edinburgh’s Sick Kids hospital overnight earlier this week. Thinking only of her son and his well-being, Mairi parked her car outside of the hospital and was left frustrated when she emerged the next day to find two parking tickets on her car.

It wasn’t all bad, however – sitting next to the tickets was a pile of cash and a note reading “Pay it, then forget it happened!” A kind and anonymous stranger had left Mairi the money to pay for the tickets!

Would love to find out who did this! I'm still in a lovely feeling of shock!! Please share - maybe I'll be able to...

“I'm still overwhelmed at the kindness of it. I'll never forget it, and if anyone has any idea of who it could have been, or recognises the writing or note paper, please let me know, I'd love to be able to thank them!” wrote a grateful Mairi.

She added: “I have a pink Honda Jazz. How unbelievably kind and thoughtful is that?”

The post has been shared over 10,000 times, with Facebook users joining in the search for this kind stranger.
