Lawyers have branded a decision to fine a mother for bad-mouthing her ex-husband to their three children as ‘unprecedented’.

The Italian woman, whose name has not been released, has been ordered by a family court to pay €30,000 in compensation for ‘belittling’ her husband to his kids.

The matter ended up in court after the children appeared to ‘turn against’ their father, with the youngest even refusing to see him.

According to the presiding judge, the mother ‘undermined his role as an educator and as a referential figure’ by criticising him in front of their little ones.

Along with the large fine, the mother in question has also been ordered to increase the father’s access to their kids.

The decision is believed to have been made in a bid to send a very strong message to separated and divorced parents: children cannot be used as pawns to ‘get one over’ on their former spouse.

What are your thoughts on the case? Do you think the judge made the right decision?
