To be pregnant and receive a diagnosis of Down syndrome must fill any parent-to-be with a range of emotions, and one adoring mum in-the-know has sent out a very special message of comfort to anyone struggling in this situation.

 

Cristy Proctor, from Illinois, took to Facebook to mark the two-year anniversary of finding out that her daughter, Isabella Grace, had Down syndrome.

 

Posting a shot of the tot’s sonogram photo, Cristy recalled the day in April 2014 when she found out she was expecting a little girl; shortly after, she was informed of the doctor’s diagnosis.

 

“I spent much of my remaining pregnancy in worry, fear of the unknown, and probably every emotion you can think of. It was a very sad time for me,” she admitted.

Having gone on to welcome little Isabella Grace six weeks early, Cristy is besotted with her amazing little girl, and she decided to share some words of comfort to anyone experiencing mixed emotions as they await their little one’s birth.

 

“I tell you this as an encouragement to those that may have just received the same news. As hard as it may be to do, focus on your exciting news of simply having a baby! What a joyful celebration. It is a time for you to fall in love with a child you’ve not even met yet,” she wrote.

 

Cristy, who shares photos and stories from her precious daughter’s life on Facebook, added: “Everything else will come in time. Enjoy your pregnancy and welcome to the family! You are now one of the lucky few.”

 

As you can imagine, Cristy’s post has been met with some truly beautiful responses and stories.

 

One follower who could relate to Cristy’s experience wrote: “So true. I went through the same thing. I’m blessed…sometimes scared, but blessed to have the best baby who makes me laugh, and I have love for her like no other. She has shown me strength, patience and pure, pure love. I feel like I’m the lucky one.”
