The kindness and compassion of strangers can save the day, and this is something that one mum in the US learned recently.

Sandra De Jong Borchers took to the Love What Matters Facebook page this week, to send a heartfelt message of thanks to the kind stranger who was so kind to her son when he recently had a ‘meltdown’ in a homeware store.

In the post, Sandra explained how her four-year-old son has ADHD, autism and sensory processing disorder, and was ‘overstimulated’ on the day that he “began hitting himself in the head, screaming, punching me, and pulling on my shirt while crying.”

“What I saw was a kind smile from you. Not one of judgment, but of acceptance,” recalled Sandra, of the by-stander.

The stranger’s reaction was a million miles away from what Sandra is used to in these situations, apparently.

Not only has she become accustomed to receiving looks of judgment from people around her, but she will often also be told to ‘control her child’.

When the stranger proceeded to give the little boy a dollar for an ice cream, and brush off any hint of Sandra’s apology, the mother was left totally overwhelmed.

“What you didn’t see was, as you walked away, I began to cry. My thick skin had been broken through by the sheer kindness and compassion of a complete stranger. You may not remember us, but I for sure will remember you!” she added.

It just goes to further prove that the little things make all the difference.

SHARE to remind someone of the power of patience and kindness.
