Every year there will be a number of posts reminding us of the importance of child car seat safety, and the following report proves why this is a message that warrants repeating.

A mother in the States has shared photos of her mangled car after being involved in a car accident, in a bid to emphasise the importance of car seat safety.

According to her GoFundMe page, Kylee Barrett was driving with her sons – five-year-old Kolton and two-year-old Hunter – when she hit black ice. The car ended up skidding into trees at the side of the road, with the force flipping the car over and completely crushing little Hunter’s side of the vehicle.

“Hunter was in his rear-facing Safety 1st car seat in the accident, which saved his life without a doubt!” wrote Kylee, revealing that while the tot ended up with a broken femur and minor cuts and bruises, she and Kolton also managed to escape with just a few scrapes.

You guys know I'm always preaching car seat safety, right? THIS. IS. WHY. This seat was restraining a 1 year old. Mom...

Kylee’s friend Heather Viers went on to share a photo of the damage to Hunter’s side of the car, with an important message about car seat safety.

“Do y’all SEE this seat?!? IT STILL PROTECTED THAT CHILD. This specific seat retails for $100. It’s not a ‘nice’ seat, but it further illustrates the point that you don’t have to spend a fortune to keep your child safe,” wrote Heather.

She went on to urge everyone reading her post, with a child who requires a car seat, to get the seat tested by an approved child passenger safety technician (CPST) before travelling with a little one.
