There are certain ‘classic’ toys that almost every family will either have in their toy box or their attic, and this report goes to show that it’s not just the modern tech gadgets that our children need to be careful around.

Mum Emma Bozner has warned parents never to leave their young children alone with a ‘slinky’, after her son Brooklyn almost choked from winding one of the classic toys around his neck.

Taking to Facebook to share her important message, Emma wrote: “Unfortunately, yesterday he decided to wrap it around his neck three times to the point he struggled to get a breath. It was so tight around his neck I couldn’t get a big enough gap to fit the scissors through and cut it off.”

PLEASE SHARE!!!  .. Yesterday my little boy was very lucky however i couldnt forgive myself if i didnt put a warning...

Recalling the frightening ordeal, during which she feared for her son’s life, Emma added: “After pulling it from the back (and choking him in the process) I managed to get some of it cut, only to find it was metal wire inside and was a lot harder to cut through…luckily I managed to get it cut off, leaving his neck all cut and very sore.”

The photo of Brooklyn’s injury speaks for itself, and while slinkies have been around for a long time now, Emma urged parents to be extra cautious if they keep one in the house.

“Please share this as much as we can, just to put awareness out there [as to] how harmless but also dangerous slinkies can be - especially if you have an adventurous toddler that decides to wrap it round his neck. I would never in a million years [have] thought a slinky could’ve potentially taken my wee boy,” she added.

SHARE to remind other parents to be vigilant if their little one is playing with this toy.
