Upon realising that none of the children her daughter invited to her tenth birthday party were intending to show up, one heartbroken mother from the States was determined her child would celebrate her special day among people who cared for her.

10-year-old Mackenzie Moretter, who suffers from a developmental disorder called Sotos syndrome, struggles to make friends at school, but hoped some of her classmates would make an appearance to mark her big milestone regardless of her difficulties.

Unfortunately for Mackenzie, her intended guests were reluctant to take part in the celebrations, so Mackenzie's mum, Jenny, took to Facebook to rally her social circle and request girls of her daughter's age drop by her family home to wish her little girl a happy birthday.

Commenting on the difficult dynamic Mackenzie experiences in school, her dad, Matthew, said: "Kids are friendly to her, but she doesn't have friends. No one calls and talks to her."

Mackenzie's parents, who hoped they may play host to approximately 10 wellwishers, were dumbfounded when over 500 people turned up in honour of their daughter.

In addition to welcoming a star player from the Minnesota Vikings football team to her celebration, the lovely Mackenzie even had a day named after her, with the mayor of her hometown declaring Saturday 'Mackenzie Moretter Day'.

Opening up about the wonderful celebration, Mackenzie said: "I have a hard time making friends in school, but thanks to all of you, my voice was heard. I love you all."

Happy Birthday Mackenzie!
