With so many horror stories about children being stuck in hot cars doing the rounds, it follows that doing so by accident is enough to send any parent into a panic.

That is exactly what happened to Melbourne mum Mara Rose, who took to Facebook this week to share her emotional story.

Posting a message to the RACV Roadside Assistance Facebook page, the mum explained how she accidentally locked her baby daughter inside of her new car after getting confused by the car door's locking system.

In a panic, she called around to various locksmiths, none of whom would have been able to get out to her in time. And when she got in touch with National Road Service Australia, they told her that due to the terms of her ‘package’, they could not help her.

Now getting desperate, Mara got in touch with RACV, and was overwhelmed by the amazing and compassionate response she received.

Today I did the unthinkable, I accidentally locked my baby daughter in the car. I got to my grandmas house like I do...

“20 minutes later my hero arrived. In 2 minutes my little girl was awake and in my arms, as happy as Larry. I asked Steve how much I owed him, because I wasn’t a member…he then proceeded to say ‘it’s a courtesy’ call,” she wrote.

Sending her heartfelt thanks to the service and the man who rescued her child, Mara added: “He said ‘RACV will never, ever allow a child to be locked in a car.’ I was gobsmacked, I just hugged him in tears!”

Thank heavens that somebody came to the rescue of this child and mum-in-need.
