There are times when you’re the model mum with endless patience and good intentions, and there are times when life gets in the way leaving you short of time, energy and temper.

One mother, who recently endured a particularly stressful day, took to social media to heap praise upon the individual who unwittingly taught her daughter, Eloise, an incredibly important life lesson when she wasn’t in a position to do so.

Explaining to followers of the ‘Love What Matters’ Facebook page that her partner was unwell and she had spent her day frantically tending to various errands, one mother in the United States admitted that by the time she had reached supermarket, Target, with her young child, her nerves were more than a little frayed.

Finding herself behind an elderly customer who hoped to purchase each item separately, the Facebook user admitted: “Part of me, the part that had a long day at work, the part of me who had a 1 ½ year old having a meltdown in the cart, the part that had set an unnecessary timeline for Target and getting home, was frustrated with the woman and the inconvenience she had placed on me.”

However, after watching the cashier patiently assist the elderly woman in a display of utter kindness, the mother at the centre of the Facebook post admits she had an abrupt change of heart, and quickly realised the value of the exchange.

“As I watching him, I saw that Eloise was too. She was standing next to the woman, watching the employee count the change. I realised I hadn’t been inconvenienced at all,” she wrote.

“That my daughter was instead witnessing kindness and patience and being taught this valuable lesson by a complete stranger, furthermore, I realised that I too need a refresher on this lesson.”

Seeking out the employee’s manager, Eloise and Archie’s mother paid tribute to the cashier’s kind nature, and admitted that he had not only taught her young daughter a valuable lesson, but reminded each and every customer of the importance of a kind heart.

“We left Target with a cart full of consumable items, but what is more, a heart full of gratitude for such an invaluable lesson," she finished.
