Music is believed to play a role in babies' brain development, and a recent Spanish study confirmed that foetuses can both hear and respond to music from within the womb.

Given how music is one of our greatest pleasures, it makes sense that mums-to-be are very excited over the development of Babypod; a 'musical tampon' that transports tunes right into the womb.

Babypod developed from the recent Spanish research, in which the team of scientists streamed music through the tampon-like structure to gauge the babies' reactions. That basic version has now been turned into a mum's must-have accessory, consisting of a pink speaker that gets inserted into the vagina - just like a regular tampon.

According to the makers of Babypod, their invention is far superior to placing a speaker near to your bump, as this can transmit muffled sounds to the foetus.

Early experiments involving pregnant women and Babypods show that babies have been responding well to the fascinating piece of technology, moving their tongues and mouths in time to the rhythm of the songs.

What are your thoughts on Babypod? Is it something you would consider using yourself during your pregnancy?
