New legislation passed by Government will allow foster parents to adopt the children in their care.

The latest amendment to the Adoption Bill means that any child can now be adopted regardless of whether their parents are married or not once they have received permission from the child’s birth parents.

The new legislation will also aim to fast track certain cases through the High Court as well as make extra allowances for children to be adopted from foster care.

It is hopeful that the bill will be enacted next year.
