A new mother is taking legal action against a hospital after they gave her another family’s newborn to breastfeed, unbeknownst to her.

Last September, Melissa Richman delivered a baby girl named Scarlett after a three-hour C-section.

A short while later, a hospital nurse brought a baby into her room to be fed.

It was 20 minutes before staff realised the mix-up and demanded Melissa hand back the baby immediately.

Confused, the new mum says she was shocked when nurses told her a mistake had been made and she had fed a stranger’s child.

Melissa claims hospital staff brought her daughter, Scarlett, in a few moments later and encouraged her to feed without cleaning her off.

The mum has now undergone a series of tests to make sure that she didn’t pass any infections to the other child, but is now taking legal action and suing the hospital.
