In the age of technology, our children have become more and more dependent on their tech devices to provide their entertainment.

While this has had a definite impact on their habits and daily routine, it seems that it has also changed how we parents approach discipline in the home.

According to new research, parents are increasingly using access to computers and devices as a means of controlling their children's behaviour.

A survey carried out by Childwise has shown that not only do more children own tablets and other tech devices, but parents are now using them as bargaining chips when it comes to establishing order and discipline in the home.

Researchers revealed: “Parents like tablets because they are controllable – a tablet can be given or taken away to reflect good or bad behaviour, in a way that is not possible with a conventional television set or a computer.”

Indeed, while recent research flagged the potential dangers of having tech devices around the house, they added that they have some definite pros going for them.

“Apps can be purchased as rewards, and, with the growing use of tablets in primary schools, there are strong perceived education advantages,” they added.

Does this sound like something that happens in your house?
