The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) in London are calling on the public for any information about the incident in Oxford Circus in London yesterday.

Armed officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) and the MPS responded to multiple 999 calls reporting shots being fired in Oxford Circus at 4:38pm on November 24, the MPS said in a statement. The first armed response vehicle arrived just a minute after the first call came in.

The two men pictured below were caught on CCTV having an altercation, and the MPS are asking that these men come forward or anyone else who has information about what occurred. They believe that the fight between the men that 'erupted' on the platform was the cause of the mass panic.

The MPS reported that there were no casualties and no evidence of shots having been fired. According to the BBC, 16 people sustained injuries due to the stampede that happened as people evacuated the Oxford Circus station. One was treated at a major trauma centre for leg injuries, and eight others were taken to London hospitals for minor injuries.

The situation was stood down at 6:05pm.

BTP Chief Superintendent Martin Fry said in their statement, "Thank you to everyone for bearing with us this evening and also to colleagues from all the emergency services who helped carry out a swift response. Our officers, alongside those from the MPS, reacted quickly and responded professionally in line with our well-prepared plans."

If anyone has information on what occurred, please contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 citing reference 405 of 24/11.
