If you’re feeling a little bit emotional this morning, you might want to have the tissues handy, as the following video contains some of the most heart-wrenching footage you will ever see.
There isn’t a dry eye behind a computer screen this morning, after footage of the recipient of a heart transplant thanking his donor’s family went viral.
Katelyn Zimmerman, 14, was out cycling her bike with her brother in Florida last March, when she was struck by a drunk driver and killed.
Meanwhile, Alj Jeffries, also 14, was battling heart disease and in serious need of a transplant.
Out of tragedy grew hope, however; with Katelyn’s heart being donated to Alj, changing his life completely.
Recently, the Zimmermans were introduced to a thriving Alj for the first time – and it was an emotional moment, to say the least.
An overwhelmed Alj read out a letter to the Zimmermans before breaking down in tears; it read: “Thank you for the gift that I have gotten, to be able to see more in life. Thank you for giving me a second chance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart – and Katelyn’s – for being my miracle.”
The Zimmermans then listened to their daughter’s heart beating in Alj’s chest for the very first time, which you can check out in the video below.
