We recently tried out the new Obeo Food Waste Boxes – fantastic new compostable food waste boxes that go straight in the brown bin when full.
The boxes really couldn’t be easier to use! You simply unfold the OBEO box, pop it on your kitchen counter (or anywhere you prefer), fill it with any of your food waste and pop it in the brown bin after 2-3 days. What could be easier than that?
I am very strict on the amount of fresh fruit and veg our little ones eat so we build up quite a bit of waste in the way of veg peel and apple cores etc. I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of waste one box could hold and there were no horrible smells or bin juice to deal with, success all round.
I found the boxes particularly handy as I peel potatoes and veg over the sink, so the fact that it is small and was set up beside the sink saved a lot of mess around the kitchen. Let’s face it, anything that saves on time and mess is welcome in my books.
One of my favourite aspects of using the Obeo boxes is that removed the need to clean out the container I would usually use for the food waste. I would generally give it a good clean and thoroughly disinfect it every few days so removing this from the never ending list of household chores was fantastic!
The Obeo boxes really have taken all of the fuss out of recycling our food waste and have made trips out to the brown bin a far more pleasant experience. I can see them making a huge difference later in the year when the weather gets warmer and there is a higher risk of fly infestation in our brown bin. They will certainly be going on the shopping list for our house from now on.
