The ITV show which has been a staple daytime programme for years has been made famous by its no-nonsense host, Jeremy Kyle, and its guests.

Usually known for its lie detector test results, the love it or hate it show has come to the rescue of two young children.

According to reports, staff on the show contacted police after suspecting a couple from Coventry were neglecting their two children, who looked “emotionally vacant, dirty and unkempt”.

The parents, whose names have not been released to protect the identity of the children, had taken their kids to the studio in Manchester where they were looked after by staff during recording.

Officers and social services paid a visit to the family after they were contacted by the show, and the couple were immediately arrested on suspicion of child neglect. According to reports, the home was cold and dirty and there were faeces stains on the carpets.

After appearing in Coventry Crown Court both defendants were jailed for 12 months, suspended for two years and given 18 months supervision.

Talking about the case, Judge Philip Gregory said: “Looking at these two defendants it didn’t look like they were stingy with their own portions - they’re both well nourished to say the least.”

The children have been placed with adoptive parents and it is suspected that an adoption order will be made in the future.
