We place so much trust in the nursery staff who look after our children that it’s not hard to see why a parent would be so unnerved by the following Reddit revelation.

A couple have been left ‘astonishingly angry’ after staff at their 15-month-old daughter’s nursery appeared to have cut her hair without their permission.

The child’s dad, who goes by the name ‘CyberSpaceAgain’, revealed that it was only after picking up his daughter and sending a video of her to his partner that they made the discovery.

“She went ballistic at me thinking I'd cut it; I went ballistic at her… thinking she must have cut it and was messing with me. After we'd both calmed down, we established that neither of us had cut it, but it has clearly been cut. There was no mention of anything at all like this when I picked her up,” he explained.

In an update to the original post, the father revealed that the nursery have had no explanation for the haircut. While none of the staff have admitted to cutting the hair, they confirmed that the kids also have no access to scissors in the nursery.

In the absence of an explanation, the parents are understandably upset and frustrated, and have vowed to lodge a formal complaint.

“Ofsted (the nursery inspection people)… found safeguarding issues with the nursery in a recent inspection. I met with the admin staff after that inspection and was satisfied with their explanations at that point, but this is an issue that falls under the same area and they need to be told. Sigh. I really wish we'd had a decent explanation, but we don't, and I can't trust them anymore,” he added.
