Following school rules is vital for every single student, parent and teacher in order to ensure safety for everyone, but the latest measures introduced in a number of UK schools have caused controversy.

According to reports, parents have been banned from dropping their children off in their cars at the school gates of certain primary schools in East London.

The new measures have been introduced as part of a government plan to tackle anti-social behaviour in schools, under the Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs). The ban against parents was brought in to discourage dangerous driving around and outside of the school, specifically.

Teachers are serving as traffic wardens, handing out tickets to those parents caught breaking the ban, while CCTV cameras have also been installed in the six Havering schools taking part in the campaign.

Those parents caught breaking the rules three times could end up in court, and even face a criminal record for their actions.

While officials who put the ban in place are claiming that it is necessary, others have criticised the move, branding it ‘disproportionate’. What are your thoughts?

Would you like to see something similar brought in, in the Republic of Ireland?
