Anyone with a child who has an allergy will know that even the slightest whiff of peanuts, dairy or shellfish can have a very serious impact – which is why so many parents are shocked by the following report.

Health and safety officials in Toronto, Canada have this weekend confirmed reports of cases where peanut butter has been found mysteriously smeared on children’s play equipment at public parks.

Concerned parents have been finding the substance – which could trigger a major allergic reaction in some kids – on swings, slides and monkey bars.

And these are not chance coincidences, either – reports have been emerging from parks all over the city since as far back as June.

In a statement issued to local news outlet CTV, a spokesperson for Food Allergy Canada explained just how serious this unusual ‘trend’ really is.

“Given that even a small amount of peanut butter, if ingested, could cause a serious allergic reaction and be potentially life-threatening, it is an upsetting situation for everyone,” the rep said.

Let’s hope the police get to the bottom of this before anyone gets hurt.
