With so many stories of breastfeeding-shaming emerging of late, it is clear that mums are really up against it when it comes to living out their daily lives.

This has really been demonstrated in a story from the UK this week, after mums at a centre in Darlington were banned from bringing prams into the building over ‘health and safety’ concerns.

Management at the Mount Pleasant Sure Start Centre have forbidden parents from bringing buggies into the building because, so they state, they are blocking walkways and fire exits.

Parents in the area have expressed their outrage over the move, in particular after they were given the equivalent of bicycle locks and told to chain their prams up outside the building as an alternative.

Needless to say, mums have taken the issue to the media, claiming that it is an example of ‘health and safety gone mad’.

Mum Emma Easterby told the Northern Echo: “My baby had an underdeveloped eyesight and doctors told me to use the sensory room there, but I can’t now as I can’t take her pram in.”

Among the major concerns raised over the bizarre suggestion to chain the prams up outside, are the risk of robbery and unsanitary conditions for their children.

Ms Easterby added: “If word gets out that we are leaving our prams outside then we could be targeted.”
