Yvonne and Zachary Ervin’s two sons allegedly tried to kill them earlier this month, but the couple are asking for “mercy” for their boys.

According to reports, 22-year-old Christopher and Cameron, who is 17, drugged their parents with Xanax before attacking them. Thankfully Zachary managed to fight his children off while Yvonne called the emergency services, according to People magazine.

Police also allegedly found the gas line in the home had been tampered with, and the two boys were charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and two felony counts of first-degree arson.

However, despite the frightening situation, the boys’ father has asked that people show them "mercy", telling Good Morning America: "Our kids had one bad moment. It was one bad moment. We told them that we love them unconditionally. We told them that we forgive them."

Agreeing with her husband, his wife went on to add: “People don't know our sons. I ask people to just take it personally. [Think], 'What if it was your child?'”

While they have forgiven their children, the mother and father admit they are still baffled by the entire incident and can’t understand what happened.

Insisting it came out of the blue, Yvonne said:  "We just didn't know what had happened. That was totally out of character for them. They're not violent. They have issues with cleaning their room…. But nothing that would indicate anything like this."

Asking people don’t judge their two boys, Zachary added: "I pray for mercy."
