We are starting the day off with some tragic news today, as it has been reported that a Russian passenger plane has crashed in Egypt, allegedly leaving no survivors.

The plane, an Airbus A321, is said to have crashed in central Sinai, with almost 220 passengers on board. Among those travelling on the plane were 17 children.

Concerns were first raised when the plane, travelling from Egypt to Russia, disappeared from radars 23 minutes after taking off from Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport.

Hours later, emergency services discovered the crash site, in a mountainous area of central Sinai. All 212 passengers and seven crew members are presumed dead, according to sources.

Egypt’s Prime Minister, Sherif Ismail, has since confirmed that a cabinet-level crisis committee has been convened to deal with this most tragic incident. Meanwhile, 45 ambulances have been deployed to the crash site to deal with the wreckage.

Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman in Egypt, Maria Zakharova, has addressed the situation on her social media channels, promising that she will share any new information as soon as it is released.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by today’s tragedy.
