Police in Long Beach, Los Angeles, are investigating an incident in which a 20-year-old pregnant woman was shot dead by an 80-year-old man.

Andrea Miller was shot twice by Tom Greer in the back as she ran from the scene of the crime, where she had pleaded for her and her baby’s life.

Greer did not show any remorse for the woman’s death, as he recalled: “She says ‘don’t shoot me, I’m pregnant – I’m going to have a baby.’ And I shot her anyway. The lady didn’t run as fast as the man so I shot her in the back twice. She’s dead, but he got away.”

Andrea and her accomplice, Gus Adams, were robbing the old man’s home in the middle of the night when he caught them, and he says, tackled him, before he found his gun.

Greer has said his actions were in self-defence, despite the fact the woman’s back was turned when he fired: “When the time comes to defend yourself, you best do something.”

Police in the area are investigating whether the man should face charges or not as in the state of California, a homeowner may defend themselves if they are in: “imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.”
