While there have been numerous reports into the dangers of leaving a baby in a hot car, this latest report from Sydney has highlighted another risk of taking your eyes off your little one while and about.

Police have safely located a five-month-old child who was snatched by a carjacker as his mum popped into a childcare centre.

According to reports, the baby boy was sleeping in the car at the time it was stolen, as his mum had decided not to disturb him as she ran inside the centre.

When the frantic mother made the terrifying discovery, she immediately contacted police, and they were able to locate the stolen vehicle after a brief search. However, shockingly, the child was nowhere to be found.

Authorities launched a major search for the child, who was thankfully located hours later in a gutter.

Although the baby was unharmed, he was red and extremely cold when found by John Burgess, a local tradesman.

Sydney media sources have reported that the alleged thief, named as 33-year-old Ben Olsen, has now been charged with taking a vehicle with an occupant on board, and abandoning or exposing a child to danger or serious injury.

Olsen has also been ordered to undergo a mental health assessment while in custody.
