There is nothing that will make your stomach sink or your heart race that little bit faster than knowing that your children are in danger, and our hearts go out to the family in this story.

A couple last week went public with their story, after sick notes addressed to their children were delivered in through their mailbox.

The couple, who understandably wished to remain anonymous, were left horrified when they received a note which read: “The children look delicious. May I have a taste?”

This note was followed up with a package containing a magazine, with the envelope addressed to ‘Your Tasty Children’.

Taking to a neighbourhood Facebook page, the terrified parents issued the following warning: “To the individual who sent this letter … The answer is NO! NO you may not have my children in any way, shape, or form. And beyond anything physical you may NOT rob them of the security and comfort they feel. The trust they have in other people, or the joy they experience on a daily basis because of who they are. You DO NOT have the right to try to steal this from them by sending an anonymous letter trying to rip their world apart. I will NOT let that happen. What you MAY do, since you were so formal in your letter to ask, is you MAY turn yourself into the police, or you MAY seek help for your sexual and/or homicidal urges. Either way, the children of this community are off limits.”

When the couple realised that the letters were not being sent to other households, they approached the police, who traced them back to a 38-year-old neighbour, Carrie Pernula.

Pernula, who is a forensic data entry operator with a degree in psychology, was arrested shortly after and is facing charges of stalking and making gross misdemeanour terroristic threats.

As for the reason Pernula gave for sending these chilling messages to the kids? The poor little mites had been leaving things on her porch and making ‘too much noise’.

We are so relieved that the perpetrator of this sick prank has been caught.
