There have been some very comforting stories in recent times, documenting just how incredible our police officers can be in unusual situations, and the following is about as heart-warming as it gets.

A pair of Ohio police officers have been praised for going ‘above and beyond’ for a two-year-old child found wandering the streets alone, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The officers picked up the toddler after receiving a phone call from a concerned member of the public, at about 2.30am. When they found him, the child was walking barefoot in nothing but pyjamas, with a soiled nappy and trousers.

Horrified Officer Jamie Landrum immediately went out to purchase nappies, a new outfit and a coat for the tot, while colleague Officer Will Nastold spent time playing with him while trying to get him to take a nap.

Three hours later, the child’s mother arrived at the police station to pick him up. The 28-year-old appeared to be intoxicated, and it emerged that it was not the first time that the child had left home alone.

The mother was arrested and charged with child endangerment, while the little boy was placed in the care of his aunt.

An image of the tot’s interaction with one of the officers was captured and shared to Facebook, and has garnered an outpouring of emotion online.
