Mum-of-three Sarah Lawlor is speaking out about the regeneration works that left her homeless.

The 24-year-old and her young family were living with her grandfather in his flat in St Teresa’s Gardens until a year ago when he was moved to a smaller place due to regeneration works.

“They moved my grandfather into a one-bedroom apartment across the way, but it was too small to accommodate all of us,” Sarah told the Herald.

“I was forced to move into a hostel and leave my three kids with my ex-partner.”

Sarah has appealed to Dublin City Council for accommodation, but so far has been unsuccessful. Speaking about her current living circumstances, she says she’s afraid when staying in the city hostels she’s being forced to live in.

“I’m afraid going into these hostels, you go in at night and there are people shooting up beside you. It’s no place for a pregnant woman to be living in.”

Sarah is also claiming the situation is affecting the health of her baby. The mum-of-three is five months pregnant and was recently admitted to hospital after her baby was found suffering from an irregular heartbeat - something that Sarah blames on the stress she’s under.

Demolition work began on St Teresa’s Gardens last week as part of a regeneration plan to replace the complex with 50 new residential units.
