We have some very sad news to share this morning, as police in Germany have confirmed that remains found in a forest are indeed those of Peggy Knobloch; the nine-year-old schoolgirl who went missing 15 years ago.

Peggy, whose case was often drawn in comparison to that of Madeleine McCann, vanished on the way home from school in May 2001, in the Thüringen area of Bavaria.

While her disappearance sparked a massive manhunt, authorities never got to the bottom of what happened to the young girl.

Now, in a devastating update to the story, it has emerged that remains discovered in a forest near the Knoblochs’ home have been confirmed as Peggy’s.

According to reports, a mushroom-picker made the discovery on Saturday, while out in the forest.

It is understood that DNA testing was carried out on the remains, which were found alongside a piece of jewellery belonging to the nine-year-old.

Police are said to now be scouring the forest area for clues as to who is responsible for what happened to Peggy.

In 2004, a man received a life sentence for confessing to Peggy’s murder; however, the sentence was overturned 10 years later when he withdrew the claim.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Knobloch family today.
