The World Cup is underway in Russia and thousands of spectators have been enjoying the event.

However, it isn't all fun and games for some.

This is certainly the case for some female sports journalists covering the matches.

A number of women have experienced sexual harassment on the street during broadcasts.

They have now taken to Twitter to call for respect towards women.

Last week, whilst working, a man held and kissed a Colombian reporter Julieth Gonzalez Theran in the city of Saransk.

The footage has been widely shared and criticised on social media.

Despite the bad press, days later, another female sports journalist experienced the same type of inappropriate behaviour when she was doing her job.

This time, it was Brazilian reporter Júlia Guimarães, in the city of Yekaterinburg.

On Sunday, during a broadcast, a man wearing glasses approached the journalist and attempted to kiss her on the cheek.

Júlia quickly moved out of the way and is heard scolding the man for his actions.

"Don't do this! Never do this again. Don't do this, I don't allow you to do this, never, OK? This is not polite, this is not right," she said.

"Never do this to a woman, OK? Respect," she added.

Taking to Twitter, she expressed her feeling towards the incident saying:

“It’s hard to find words... I’ve never experienced this in Brasil but twice here.

"Shameful and sad," she added.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time the journalist has encountered the problem at the World Cup.

Opening up to Globoesporte she said she experienced harassment at the opening game when Russia took on Saudi Arabia on June 14 in the Russian capital.

Additionally, the Brazilian had allegedly received aggressive looks and was subjected to offensive songs at the tournament.

Júlia has received floods of support from fellow sports journalists.

The occurrences and behaviour towards women in these circumstances aren't unusual.

A few months ago, a reporter in Mexico hit back at a fan who reportedly groped her during a live broadcast, according to the Independent.ie.
