It’s that time of the year when we get really sentimental about our loved ones and days gone by, and you may find yourself taking a trip down memory lane this Christmas by pulling out the old family photos.

Given just how special these mementos are to us, it’s no surprise to learn just how important they ranked in a recent study carried out by Canon.

The survey - carried out across 447 Irish adults - showed that, for half of respondents (48%), family photos would take priority over other material goods if there was a house fire.

Upon reflection, it’s no surprise then to learn that our wedding and baby photos are the most treasured snaps in our collections, while Christmas photos from our youth are also a particular standout.

The importance of having special Christmastime photos was highlighted in the survey, and with 62% of respondents admitting that they wish they had better photos of their children from when they were younger, it’s a reminder to us all to get snapping over the festive season.

Commenting on the survey’s insights, Canon’s marketing manager, Jonathan Sultan, said: “Christmas is the ideal time to capture those magical childhood memories, and there is nothing quite like having a printed photograph to look at and proudly display over the mantelpiece.”
