No doubt many of you have been following the latest update in the story of Sally Faulkner, the Australian mother whose two children were taken to Lebanon by their father, Ali Elamine, who refused to return them.

In the same week that Sally was arrested along with a 60 Minutes show crew, with all parties facing charges of child abduction, it has emerged that the parents are currently trying to negotiate a custody deal for six-year Lahela and two-year-old Noah.

Sally’s lawyer told Fairfax Media that Mr Elamine is eager to have the former couple’s divorce proceedings finalised in Lebanon.

It is reported that Sally has vowed to drop her claim for sole custody of the kids in Australia, Lebanon or another country if Mr Elamine drops the child abduction charges against her.

Mr Elamine does not, however, want to see the charges against the 60 Minutes crew or the members of the professional child recovery agency dropped.

According to reports, the judge presiding over the case, Rami Abdullah, is ‘sympathetic’ to Sally’s plight and considers the botched rescue attempt as a ‘desperate action’ rather than a kidnapping.

We will keep you updated on the story as more information emerges.
