In the aftermath of an incident which led to the hospitalisation of two of its students, the Bourne Community College in Southbourne has issued a statement regarding the attack.

Commenting on the incident which took place last Friday afternoon, head teacher, Simon Liley, assured concerned parents that their children were being kept informed of developments.

Explaining the course of action the school has taken in the wake of the assaults, he wrote: "I am writing to let you know that, following the horrific incident which occurred in Havant on June 26, we have had special assemblies for all year groups this morning, led by a Police Inspector from Havant Neighbourhood Policing Team."

In an effort to reassure students, who are understandably troubled by their classmates' experience, the Police Inspector addressed their concerns, with Mr. Liley writing; "He spoke to reassure the students that they were not at risk and to explain the nature of the incident and what is now being done by his colleagues in Hampshire Police."

Elaborating on the nature of the incident, students were informed by the Police Inspector that a number of students from their school had been attacked, with the head teacher explaining: "He confirmed that three students from our school were attacked and two were seriously injured by a lone male. Both boys are described as ‘serious but stable’ by the medical teams caring for them."

Mr. Liley assured parents that students from the Bourne Community College in Southbourne have been offered counselling in light of the weekend's frightening events and he has confirmed that the pastoral team will be available to any student seeking support.

Richard Michael Walsh, who was charged in connection with the attack, appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates' Court this morning.

The 43-year-old man, of no fixed abode, spoke only to confirm his identity having been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of actual body harm.
